  1.     The .30-30 Winchester (or "thutty-thutty") 
  2. was the first smokeless powder cartridge, and was 
  3. designed specifically for the 1894 Winchester 
  4. rifle, the most long-lived of that series of 
  5. lever-action rifles memorialized in the Hollywood 
  6. western.  The .30-30 achieved great popularity as
  7. a basic, inexpensive deer cartridge.

  9.     Because of the strong association with these 
  10. older lever rifles, the .30-30's reputation for 
  11. accuracy has suffered a bit, but when chambered 
  12. in a high-quality bolt-action or single-shot 
  13. rifle, it will hold groups as tight as the best.

  15.     The .30-30 Winchester is usually encountered 
  16. with flat-nose bullets, because of the tubular 
  17. magazines of all of the above-noted lever-action 
  18. rifles...  a round- or sharp-pointed bullet might 
  19. act as a "firing pin" during recoil for the 
  20. cartridge in front.

  22.     The .30 Remington is basically a rimless 
  23. version of the .30-30 Winchester, with virtually 
  24. identical ballistics.
